Inspiration from David Ogilvy to write good content that sells!
The legendary ad-man, David Ogilvy, went through a laborious 12 step process for his masterpieces. Here they are:
1) Never write content at a place with too many interruptions.
2) Study the precedents & view all the past ads/content.
3) Keep searching & researching for ‘motivational’ content.
4) Pen down the problem & purpose of the campaign. Don’t proceed till the client buys that.
5) Note down all the facts & the selling ideas before writing.
6) Write 20 headlines & select the one by asking others & doing tests.
7) Go home, start writing & struggle.
8) Be terrified of bad stuff. Throw away the first 20 drafts (only if you can do that many).
9) Drink 1/2 a bottle of rum & play Handel on the piano. It may help to produce a gush of copy!
10) Next morning, edit the gush.
11) Take the train & get the secretary to type the draft.
12) Lousy copywriters make good editors. After 4/5 edits, it is good to go.
Worth trying. Isn’t it!
