In sales, should one be a moonstruck lover while chasing customers who aren’t signing?
In sales cycles, a common situation is of customers agreeing on everything but postponing the signing. Everything is there- the budget & the need. But just making up the mind is the biggest issue.
In such a situation, as a salesperson should one feel like a jilted lover & walk off or keep chasing?
Well, neither!
The salesperson should have absolute radio silence for a few days – and see what happens. Not walk out – but show that their time is not being wasted – but be absolutely normal when the customers come back.
Sometimes we are our worst enemies – in our constant chatter & chase, we put off the customer & irritate them to postpone or doubt us.
So, a strategic silence may be the best way out. They get the time to think, hopefully, convince themselves – without any help – & come back with renewed vigour.
If they are still silent after a few days – a conversation can be initiated on a different channel – and they can be given something to read /something of value – nothing to do with the deal!
And as they say in love – let them go free – if they came back – they were always yours! And if they don’t – we have the relationship intact for selling to them again in the future!
