How do we build one of the finest institutions in the world? One day at a time – with intelligence, aggression, patience, & risk mgmt. Today is the first day in 25 years Aditya Puri will not be going to the bank he built – HDFC Bank.

The day one registers their co., their email gets spammed by all service providers. It is very likely for them to get a surprise walk-in visitor, none other than a bank rep. asking them to open their corp a/c with that bank.

The story of the bank is the story of innovating & growing with India, historically sound decision-making when giving in to temptations or kicking the can down the road are the norm. We do that year after year – we become THE institution!

Mr Puri explained – good friends representing bad business risk get nothing more than a coffee from the bank. And staying consistent helps – their website had the same images for 4 years at a stretch!

Mr. Puri is known to end his day at 5:30 pm every evening, never wore a watch/ carried any money/ mobile – creating perhaps the finest bank on the planet. No controversies, negligible NPAs, digitally Xed, Aditya Puri leaves behind an awesome legacy.
